Our Mission
My grandmother left school at fourteen. She could tell the difference between a crocheted lace and macramé without thinking twice.
Today, we are more educated than ever, yet much of this everyday knowledge has disappeared. We handle more clothes than previous generations ever did, but often know surprisingly little about what they are made from. We know how a garment looks, where it is from and how much it costs. The material label is often the part we understand least.
bycomposition was created to make that easier.
We believe that knowing what you wear should not require a degree in textiles. You should be able to understand the difference between linen and viscose, know what modal actually is, recognise a twill from a poplin and understand what a certification on a label really means.
We do the searching and filtering so that you do not have to.
bycomposition brings together clothing, accessories, jewellery and other pieces made from materials we consider worth knowing about, while filtering out unnecessary synthetic materials from search results. The aim is not to tell you what you should buy. It is to give you better information about what is already out there, so that you can make your own choices with a little more knowledge and a lot less digging.
Because caring about what you wear is already an effort. We think finding out what it is made of should be the easy part.
