Notes on fabric

Tulle is a lightweight net fabric with a regular open mesh structure. It is usually sheer and can range from very soft and flexible to relatively crisp, depending on its construction. Unlike lace, tulle does not normally contain elaborate decorative motifs within the mesh itself, making it a simpler and more uniform openwork fabric. The name comes from Tulle, a city in south-central France historically associated with the production of net fabrics. Tulle later became particularly important in fashion for veils, ballet costumes, skirts and other garments requiring transparency and volume.

Founded in Los Angeles in 2016 by sisters Margaret and Katherine Kleveland, DÔEN draws heavily on vintage American and Californian references. The brand is known for romantic, feminine silhouettes, nostalgic prints, delicate details and an emphasis on natural fabrics. Its early identity was closely connected to a collective, female-led approach to the business and creative process.
